Users who pre-registered for the SimCity beta received their access codes today. Unfortunately there’s not much “beta testing” that users are actually able to do, as the beta is limited to one hour of play time (excluding the walk-through). It gives the unwelcome impression that the game is essentially a finished product at this point, making the beta a cleverly disguised demo to get more people to purchase a pre-order.
Conspiracy theories aside; the game is a thoroughly enjoyable, well designed experience. Kudos to EA/Maxis for bringing it together so neatly.
